Cabinets Metric: no compromising for quality parts. Metric vs. Imperial (English) - your solution to be precise in custom cabinetry process.

The Metric measuring system in custom cabinetry verses Imperial (English) system? Some may say cabinet making and woodworking are not a precise industry. Carpenters have their own language and terms (heavy or light, sixteenth, or hair plus, hair minus) What is That?

Metric cabinetry

We know change can be difficult. But, we are confident that if you can count money, then the conversion to the metric system will not only save you time and frustration, it will eliminate costly and time consuming mistakes. Imagine no more fraction math, only dealing with whole numbers and half numbers is much easier than working in fractions.

Precision is the name of the game here.

Our tolerances are kept to +/- 0.5 mm (1/52") which = 1.25/64" a little more than 1/2 of 1/32" hard to do the math.

By working, designing, cutting materials and measuring in metric, we are able to maintain doors that are 21 mm +/- 0.2 mm thickness. Drawer box core 15 mm -0/+0.2 mm in thickness. Reveal between doors 2.5-3 mm, the cabinet box will not be out of square more than 1 mm and the cabinet itself will be no more than 1 mm out of specification standards. For efficiency in production, we have to be precise in every step of construction without compromise.

We use the Imperial system only for American consumers. (Drawings to be used on site or communication with customer). The plywood 3/4" is never really 3/4 (23/32), same 1/2 (15.7/32) or 1/4 (6.3/32) ply thickness. Can you see the benefits in working with the Metric system?

Here is another example: we use 15 mm solid wood for drawer box sides, fronts and backs. Most quality lumber suppliers are capable and they do offer services for sizing lumber to your specifications. We order it at 15.4 mm to have 0.4 mm for our own final sizing and it works perfectly. We are sure this will work for you.

Matric cabinet parts

Let's make the parts cut list;

Drawer Front, Door, Drawer Box and cabinet parts. Metric cabinet sizes show rounded to the nearest millimeter. Actual 3/4 plywood thickness we use 18.5 mm (very typical for the industry), 1/2 plywood, 12 mm, 1/4 plywood, 5.5 mm.

In our production folder, priority pages will be:

1) Door and Drawer Front
cut list (include end-panels),
2) Crown and trim, Valences and Fillers,
3) Drawer Boxes,
4) Finished Cabinet parts,
5) Cabinet parts and Shelves.

Assembling to begin only after all parts are ready and finished.
6) Assemble, wrap, deliver to job.
